On Being Gaudy

I was thinking about what it means to be gaudy in 2025. What does it mean to be flashy, loud, a show-off, in the current state of circumstances? Or rather, what does it mean to “intentionally” choose to be gaudy, despite the evident climate of the culture we’re situated in?

Maybe it’s the beauty in acting as such, knowing that deep inside I’m actually not as I pretend to be. But I’d like to argue otherwise. I find inherent virtue in being gaudy. Not at all as a hollow nihilistic attitude towards the world, but as a farce. A farce performed in a determined manner. I do not desire for an illusion of hope that is the promised land. But I desperately crave for realness.

Being gaudy, played out as a determined farce, will bring out the most honest perspective of mine. In that sense, gaudiness is a virtue.
