10 Songs with… Yuoto Saito

Yuoto Saito

A producer/DJ born in Yokohama in 2002.

Drawing inspiration from a wide range of sounds including leftfield, pure, mental, hypnotic, and experimental music, they create genre-agnostic works that resist conventional categorization.

In 2024, they released their debut EP Gray Energy Flow on Portugal-based Diffuse Reality Records. Throughout 2025, they expanded their presence across clubs in Tokyo, and in August performed at “MnK pre: Genkaku 49,” an event curated by Minna-no-kimochi held on the 49th floor of Toranomon Hills.

Their sound has begun to attract attention from European DJs, with artists such as DVS1 and others incorporating their tracks into their sets.

1. What was the first track you ever bought?

Chinatown Slalom – Every Minute Of The Day (ft. Gallyot)

I don’t remember the first track I bought, but I clearly remember the first vinyl I purchased and loved.
That was probably the moment I became conscious of music as something you own.

2. A track that fills you with energy?

Mount Kimble – You Look Certain (I’m Not So Sure) (WXAXRXP Session)

I often listen to this when I arrive at Shibuya Station before a gig.
It pulls out the punk mindset that lies deep inside me.

3. A track that makes you want to DJ?

Rrose – Warterfall

This is something I’ve been wanting to play lately.
It has that feeling of stretching time on the floor—
a sound that can take control of the space itself.

4. A track that reminds you of your first love?

OTODOJO – Amphibious Spirits

5. What were you listening to in middle school?

Young Thug – The Blanguage

When I first encountered Young Thug and trap music, I listened to it a lot.
It felt like music suddenly became free, and that freshness really stuck with me at the time.

6. A track that makes you feel your hometown?

Tamburi Neri – Barrtino

I used to throw parties with friends at a bar called Rotary in Noge.
This track carries that kind of vibe.

7. A track that describes your personality?

Jonquera – Escroc Voice in My Head

Just somehow.

8. A track you wish you had made yourself?

julien dyne – who are you (feat. ladi6 & parks)

It’s the kind of music I could never make, which is exactly why I find it so compelling.

9. A track that represents the city you live in now?

Brotherkupa – Get to it

The city I live in isn’t loud, but it isn’t quiet either.
It feels like a place that suits walking without a destination.

Lately, I’ve been taking walks while listening to this track.

9. A track that evokes romance and reminds you of dreams?

Nicolas Jaar – Rio de las tumbas

This track depicts land, people, and history as a single continuous flow.
It recalls dreams and romance not as personal emotions,
but on a scale closer to humanity’s collective memory.

9. Your honest thoughts on the current Tokyo DJ scene, and your outlook for the future?

The Tokyo DJ scene is highly mature, but at the same time, the “correct answers” feel too visible.
I want to play DJing and music as emotion and ideology.

As Yuoto Saito, I want to be someone who leaves behind something unforgettable—
something that stays with you once you’ve experienced it.
