10 Songs with… OASIS 2

OASIS 2
Selling obscure vintage on the outskirts of Kyoto, OASIS2 strips apart the existing value of secondhand clothing. OASIS2 continues to explore the boundaries of fashion outside the “mode,” and the landing points of its translations and mistranslations.
1. What was the first song you bought yourself?
H Jungle with T – GOING GOING HOME
1995…!
I was born in ’89, so I was 6… no, 5. Looking back, it’s not really a song kids would vibe to, haha. Downtown Hamada and Tetsuya Komuro…
Looking it up again, the B-side has “Jungle Mix” and “Ragga Mix.” No memory of that. Thirty years ago? My head’s spinning…
2. What song gets you pumped?
Mystic Force – Mystic Force
I use it like a Q&P Kowa Gold supplement—when I’m just driving far away, or taking an endless stroll with a chuhai in hand.
3.What song reminds you of the passion for clothes?
ELEPHANT MAN – Pon De River Pon De Bank
It’s not like I listened to it much back then, better yet I probably hadn’t heard it in nearly 20 years, but it brings back that feeling of a summer day when I was 14 or 15, the pop displays and listening stations at TSUTAYA, the AIR FORCE 1s I was wearing…
I remember admiring that “big vibes,” but at the same time I couldn’t be like that as I was too naive, and I was very perplexed about it at that time, but maybe that lack of balance is the essence of my sense of fashion.
2003 and 2004 inspires me a lot!
4.Favorite old song?
Todd Runglen – Believe in Me
Old song… a song from before I was born, 1970, like a blanket tucked around me when I sleep in a car.
Because of my job, I listen to music in the car a lot.
It pairs well with the car heater too, warms you up instantly.
5. Song that reminds you your hometown?
UA – Flash” (Instrumental / Rei Harakami Original Mix)
It doesn’t necessarily remind me of my hometown, but it’s just a song I often listened to while walking my dog in the evening around the projects I lived in. Nothing serious.
I didn’t think much of it back then, just the feeling of the vast rice fields and land, the sun setting and night gradually falling. Would I feel the same now? I wouldn’t think so…
I listened to it a lot even after moving to Kyoto.
6. Which song describes your personality?
Rashinban – Songline
Tough question… This song doesn’t necessarily describe my personality but Maybe it’s less of my personality but it does compass the emotional state I would always want to be in. I often think about that when I’m driving.
7. What song fits your work or workspace?
Akio, Okihide – Phoenix At Desert
I don’t usually listen to music too much, but I do regularly listen to the album “Scratches” that this track is on. It feels like it helped with my mental stability in my 20s, same sense I may have lost in my 30s.
8. Favorite song by your friend?
Kazumichi Komatsu feat. Dove & Le Makeup – Umi Ga Kikoeru
I wondered when it came out and looked it up—November 2020… five years ago already.
I first heard it while driving during a buying trip and remember playing it on repeat that day. I also love the remix by Yusaku Arai. A masterpiece!
9. What song captures your current mood?
EPO – 百年の孤独[A Hundred Years of Solitude]
This isn’t so much about now as it is purely my mood. Now that I’m past mid-thirties, life feels more real—like I’m actually living it. It’s that kind of vibe, mixed with thoughts like, “So I’m going to die someday…” haha
10. What song feels Kyoto-esque?
KIRINJI – 雨を見くびるな[Don’t Underestimate The Rain] (Nobukazu Takemura Remix)
The song reminds me of the time when I was a student around 2010, rather than the feeling of living in Kyoto.
There’s the liveliness of college students and the city’s unshaken tranquility.
I remember seeing an old image of Nobukazu Takemura wearing a Stussy varsity jacket, but I just searched and couldn’t find it.
11.Tell us about your future activities.
I’ll keep hustling hard all day with vintage clothes!
Also, I didn’t include this in my track selection, but I want to add that I was hugely influenced by what you’d call Japanese rap!
I started listening to US hip-hop around 13 or 14 (Eminem was big then), and while that influenced my fashion sense, the music I was truly obsessed with was stuff like NITRO MICROPHONE UNDERGROUND… Of course, I traced it back up and was blown away by BUDDHA BRAND, then got hooked on SCARS in the late 2000s. But at the same time, I was also listening to Spitz and stuff… That balance[of the prefecence] might be related to what I’m doing now.
